Please don't feed our bums
Here’s the original sticker that started all the controversy. “Ocean Beach: Please don’t feed our bums” has been as divisive as a sticker can get. Some folks love it, some folks hate it. Some say it’s an appropriate reaction to a new breed of aggressive young panhandler, suspected of being “homeless by choice”; others see it as downright cruel. You can actually get the stickers for a bunch of cities in SoCal, so if you want to join the “campaign”, have at it. Just head on over to The Black smoke shop in Ocean Beach, headquarters for the whole thing. The thing’s all over the news as well; just Google for it. What do you think? Is “Please don’t feed our bums” speaking the truth or just preaching hate?

It’s an obvious and sleazy marketing ploy to sell stickers.

Someone expresses frustration with a bad situation in a humorous way and it’s either “preaching hate” on a par with white supremacists and Holocaust deniers or “speaking the truth” like some sort of undeniable ideology/gospel?
We cry about the polarization of politics in this nation. Could we possibly blame irresponsible media like you for presenting a grey situation like humor in poor taste as only having one of two extreme interpretations?
