Unfortunate logo aside, Pinpoint Music is a worthwhile endeavor. Here’s what they say about themselves:

Pinpoint Music is an independent music review site dedicated to the users. We’re a group of music enthusiasts who grew disheartened with the lack of sites out there that allow the users to interact with reviews. So we created a place where you can listen to the music while reading an article, and then praise or trash the review for the world to see. It’s a simple concept; we’re music fans who built the site we always wanted to go to.

I think anyone can get behind that.

It’s the LastFM integration that’s especially interesting to me. Writing about music takes on a different dimension when you can hear the tracks the writer’s talking about – reducing the abstraction necessary in a music review. After all, saying Big Boi’s new album is “so hot you’ll make ugly faces” means so much more if you’re given the opportunity to make those ugly faces yourself. They’re not in every review, but the embedded Soundcloud players are a great addition. Even without them. Pinpoint Music is still worth it for the reviews.
