Classic dancing bears Why a Grateful Dead Bear? The dancing bears symbolized the fun-loving aspect of the Grateful Dead and their fans. Over the years these bears have appeared on multi-colored bumper stickers, T-Shirts and posters. The origin of the bear was taken from the Bob Thomas album art cover. The back cover of Bear's Choice showed the multi-colored marching bears.
