The UBC Faculty of Forestry designed these custom glossy die cut stickers to help spread their passion for their program across campus and greater British Columbia. It features wildlife and beautiful landscapes, along with their iconic building. This sticker will travel far and wide. Students and those interested in the program will now have a portable billboard to display their pride.
Forestry is the science, art and practice of understanding, managing and using wisely the natural resources associated with, and derived from forest lands. These resources include timber, water, fish, wildlife, soil, plants, and recreation. Forest lands are instrumental in the beauty and spiritual impact of our landscape. The utilization of all of these resources is part of the cultural heritage of British Columbia, and modern resources management embraces these values. Finding a balance between these multiple uses, while sustaining and conserving forest resources is the basis of this challenging and exciting program of study.
The program has a history dating back over one hundred years, when in 1915 UBC officially started as an institution, with three academic areas: Arts and Science, Applied Science, and Agriculture. In 1918, the first forestry course started, where for four weeks returning war veterans could qualify to work as forest guards. One of the newest developments is their Bachelor of Urban Forestry degree that was established in 2015.

We're very excited to announce a new offering: custom matte stickers. This new product in our all-star lineup features a writable surface, a satin-like appearance, durable laminate and free laser die cuts. Yes, lasers.
This new choice of finishing option on our die cut stickers means you can pick between two different styles, matte and glossy. These stickers are great for detailed artwork, or times when you want your custom sticker designs to standout in the crowd. The matte lamination is indoor and outdoor durable, so your brand can travel far and wide for years to come.
Matte stickers versus Glossy stickers
Here's a side by side of our December monthly seasonal sticker sheet in matte (left) and glossy (right) stickers in natural light. You can see the shine of the reds and greens on the glossy and the more muted appearance on the matte sticker. Both are great options, but they have different uses, and certain designs work better on matte than with glossy, namely very detailed artwork and creative presentations. These sticker sheets are fun and utilitarian (they make present labels!), and they offer up a holiday greeting along with a comparison for how these stickers will finish. Read on to see more behind the scenes as matte stickers enter the StickerGiant family.
Behind the scenes on the laser
We sat with Nate, one of our laser operators, as he ran one of the first orders of matte stickers to come through the shop. Here's a few photos of the work in process.

Longmont's Flagstaff Academy will be having Hour of Code sessions on Tuesday and Thursday as part of Computer Science Education Week, the global campaign to demystify "code."
On their die cut sticker, the Dragons (that's their mascot) feature the "I participated in..." words above the Hour of Code and Code.org logos with their school colors. It's a great design for those who attend and want to display their new love of, and understanding for, coding and computer science.
For this year's Computer Science Education Week all schools in the St. Vrain Valley area, and over half of the schools in Boulder Valley School District will be participating with their own line up of coding and computer science educational activities. At Longmont's Alpine Elementary School, the week of coding events was kicked into gear with the demonstration of a hovercraft, built by two juniors from Skyline High. The hovercraft was built in a STEM Academy class, and was an exciting way to introduce the magic of computer science to a younger crowd.
We've been supporting these programs for a few years now, and we love that it can show that anybody can learn the basics, and to broaden participation in the field of computer science. It has since become a worldwide effort to celebrate computer science, starting with 1-hour coding activities, but expanding to all sorts of community efforts. There are a bunch of tutorials and activities on the site for anyone to try, and that's why this program can be so impactful for self-directed learning. Now this grassroots campaign is supported by over 400 partners and 200,000 educators worldwide, and this year, there are over 130,000 CSEdWeek and Hour of Code events around the world.
Long-time Supporters of Hour of Code
In 2016, we wrote up posts about Computer Science Education CSED week at Galvanize Boulder and Computer Science Education Week (CSEdWeek). We're happy to promote these events locally, and all around the world.
As this video from Code.org says "Computer Science is Changing Everything."

More About Startup Week
Techstars Startup Week brings entrepreneurs, local leaders, and friends together over five days to build momentum and opportunity around your community’s unique entrepreneurial identity. Boulder venture capitalist Brad Feld wrote a book about Startup Communities a few years back, and Camarillo is the prime example of a community that's looking long-term to realize success for their entrepreneurial business community.
Here's a talk from a few years back about his theories and how they are playing out around the world.
Over the course of five days, participants in Techstars Startup Week can choose the events they’d like to attend. Typically these events are held at various venues across a city. Speakers from the community, and outside it, are brought in to share their story to motivate and inspire the entrepreneurial community. Local organizers select the tracks they feel are most relevant to their community and choose speakers based on those tracks.
Event stickers help make connections
After Techstars Startup Week, participants find that they’re more connected to their community and no longer feel alone in their efforts. And they take their event sticker with them. They are then ambassadors in the support network that can make the difference between closing up shop and pushing through to success.
Try an event sticker for your next gathering, and you can try name tag stickers, logo stickers, or sticker sheets.
