Observing the Earth From Space: Planet Labs

Planet Labs

Were you staring at that amazing blood moon this past Sunday? Wondering about what's out there and what time the movie "The Martian" is playing this next weekend? Well, there is a lot space can offer including a snapshot of our own planet, Earth. Planet Labs is making a difference in our lives by using imaging satellites in space to map out the changes in the earth.

Planet Labs story in their own words:
"From our home in San Francisco, we design, build and operate a network of satellites that we call “Doves.” In January 2014, we delivered Flock 1, the world’s largest constellation of Earth-imaging satellites, made up of 28 Doves.

Planet creates commercial and humanitarian value with the market's most capable global imaging network. Fresh data from any place on Earth is foundational to solving commercial, environmental, and humanitarian challenges. Our global sensing and analytics platform unlocks the ability to understand and respond to change at a local and global scale."

The best part of Planet Labs is their focus on the environment and not invading personal privacy. They say that their satellites can see the canopy of trees but not people.

What people can see with Planet Labs is their custom logo stickers in their standard blue color and reversed on white with blue text. They are the perfect small size of 1.5" by 1.5" that fits on laptop space, mobile phones and more.

Spread your mission and brand all over the world with custom stickers.

StickerGiant's Commitment to Sustainable Business Practices

stickergiant sustainable wind powered business Recently a customer of ours named Colleen wrote in to ask us whether we adhere to environmentally conscious business practices. We get this question occasionally and are very proud to answer with details about the ways we are currently working to be more environmentally-friendly.

Our plan in 2014 is to pursue a full B Corporation Certification to ensure that all aspects our our company is managed in a way that will support both social and environmental stewardship. But even without the certification which takes time and dedication, we feel that it is our responsibility as conscious human beings to take the initiative and adhere to this mission regardless.

Sticker Customer Colleen:

Hello, we've been working with you for a few years now to supply stickers (of course). In addition to using wind power for your operation, are there any other sustainable or green practices that you have implemented? A client of ours is asking. Thank you!

Response by StickerGiant owner, John Fischer:

Colleen, Thanks so much for asking, we really appreciate when clients care about the stuff that matters. Starting in 2011 we began following lean manufacturing practices which effectively reduced our waste incrementally every year. Last year we reduced waste by 27K pounds over traditional manufacturing methods.

We also are EPA a green manufacturing partner, details of which can be found here: http://www.epa.gov/greenpower/

Not only is our plant wind powered, our supply chain includes wind powered partners:

Cheers and Thanks,

"Do What You Love, and Help Along The Way.…” —STICKER Story Julie Silva, Waves For Water

Waves4Water Sticker Story

This week StickerGiant features a noteworthy non-profit organization making waves to improve the global water filtration deficit. Waves for Water works with world leaders to provide clean water to communities around the world who frequently lack the resources needed to maintain clean water sources.

Waves for Water was started by pro surfer John Rose following an unexpected run-in with an earthquake off the coast of Bali during surf trip. Rose happened to be en route delivering 10 water filters to Bali, and after finding himself in the midst of a dyer water crisis, he ultimately began distributing the equipment to rescue workers and communities in his immediate area.

John’s interest in philanthropic pursuits were influenced much earlier.  His father Jack Rose, who started non-profit “Rain Catcher” has dedicated himself to teaching villages in Africa how to filter rainwater for drinking. So when John spotted the need for more global water resources, it's no surprise that he turned to his father for collaboration.

Probably the most interesting tidbit we learned from the interview was that Waves for Water uses stickers in 21 countries to label 5 gallon buckets to provide water treatment solutions.  The stickers create consistent brand awareness for

Sticker Giant Remains Open, Limited Staff Work to Manage Production

Alberto, no last name given, center, Laura Hughes, of Hygiene, left, and Boulder County Sheriff's deputy Mitchell Rosebrough work to free a pair of horses from flood water near Hygiene Road and North 75th on Thursday, Sept. 12, 2013, near Hygiene. (Matthew Jonas/Times-Call)

Sticker Giant remains open despite continued flood conditions that have drastically limited road access to our location in Hygiene, Colorado.

Staff are happy to report that power and electric to the warehouse is functioning but phones continue to remain down. Stickers are in production at this time, but systems are running at half speed due to staff shortages caused by extensive road closures throughout the surrounding areas. Staff on site and off are working hard to serve sticker customers despite these setbacks.

Sticker Giant has partnered with local Hygiene, CO restaurant Crane Hollow Cafe  to provide free coffee to all rescue, fire, and police personnel. We have extended the offer to include food for local Hygiene families displaced from their homes that come into the eatery unable to pay.

Today our thoughts are with the many Colorado people and companies we serve who have been affected by this disaster. We hope that all of you are getting the help you need to make it through this trying time. Please connect with us if there is anything we can do to help at: stickers@stickergiant.com

Gone Fishin' With Bozeman Reel

Awesome Bozeman Reel Sticker

With the state of Montana rendered in a beautiful blue, crisscrossed by endless rivers and outlined in white, Bozeman Reel's custom die cut sticker says it all without using a single word (other than their URL). This is a sticker that any fly fisher would be proud to slap on their tailgate.

Bozeman Reels are "Built in the Heart of Fly Fishing" ...

Our shop is literally yards away from one of hundreds of small streams, rivers, ponds and spring creeks that we call our proving grounds. Top local guides, with countless hours of on-stream experience, act as our research assistants. Experience the craftsmanship, durability, innovation, and soul of a Bozeman Reel.

Bozeman offers three types of serious reels for true enthusiasts:

  • The RS Series - designed for Montana's rivers with an RDX Drag System to deliver strength, reliability, durability, and precision.

  • The SC Series - a "modern-day echo of the classic days of fly fishing" inspired by reels designed by Edward vom Hofe in the late 19th Century.

  • The M1 Series - a limited edition series, "inspired by reels manufactured during the early 20th Century."

Holy cow, I'm wishing I could pull out a set of waders and head to the river right now ...

Ready for a little Tuesday Trivia?

Q: Which 1960s sitcom was based in Cocoa Beach, Florida?

  • Beverly Hillbillies

  • I Dream of Jeannie

  • The Brady Bunch

  • All in the Family

  • Green Acres

A: If you answered anything but I Dream of Jeannie, you need to cross your arms, blink twice, set your television tuner to TV Land, leave it there for two months straight, and vow to never watch Dallas again. Nevermind J.R. Ewing ... If you ask me, the role of NASA astronaut Major Nelson marked Larry Hagman's high point as an actor.
